Officials are searching in Hot Springs for a fugitive wanted on numerous felony charges.
Maziar Anthony Khodayar, 40, of Hot Springs, is wanted by the Madison County Sheriff's Office after detectives seized methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia from his home on S. Lawson Road, Hot Springs.
Officials said Khodayar went missing after detectives executed a search warrant at his home on July 12 and seized baggies of methamphetamine, marijuana, plastic drug packaging bags, hypodermic syringes and digital scales within the residence.
No one was home at the time the search was executed. Officials believe that Khodayar may have received information about the bust and fled.
Sheriff Buddy Harwood stated that the search warrant is part of an ongoing investigation aimed at curtailing chronic complaints of illegal manufacturing and distribution within the county.
We received a lot of complaints within the last four months of meth being manufactured there, but we could not confirm that, said Harwood. We did not seize any precursors (for manufacturing), but we did find meth at the location packaged for individual sale.
Detectives also seized marijuana plants growing adjacent to the residence.
Numerous felony charges have been issued against Khodayar, who is also wanted in Buncombe County for felony possession of marijuana that stem from a 2010 incident.
Julia Khodayar Fowler, mother and owner of the home, said that she has not been contacted by her son since the incident.
He hasn't called me and I'm not surprised, he knows the way I feel about this, said Fowler. It's just a mess, an embarrassing mess.
Fowler said that although she could not confirm Khodayar's whereabouts, his car has remained in Hot Springs and it was likely that he was still in the vicinity.
I don't know why he just doesn't turn himself in, said Fowler. For what he has done, there are people out there that have done 10 times worse. It is not like he murdered anyone. He needs to come and face the consequences.
Although Fowler said that she has not seen her son in about two weeks, Harwood said that neighbors said they saw him the day before detectives executed the search warrant.
Khodayar faces felony possession with intent to manufacture sale and deliver methamphetamine, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, felony manufacturing marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Harwood said that Khodayar is considered a fugitive from justice.
